Improv warm-ups have helped train our teams’ instincts to be towards “Yes, and ….” This has created a more trusting and cohesive team that spends more time building off team members ideas and less time attacking them. It also helps wake up the creative juices in a fun way that, while unconventional, improves concrete KPIs and allows us to attract better team members.
I believe that Team First games are especially helpful in IT – where IQ tends to be high and EQ (emotional quotient) tends to be low. I have always promoted social development. Team First seems to trick teams into developing EQ within the group without them even knowing it. – Woot!
I have been using “TEAM FIRST DEVELOPMENT” for almost a year now. I am so excited when I bring up the page because this is the opportunity to really, not only have FUN, but to do it in a Collaborative, Creative manner. I love the fact that its just 3 minutes and the entire team gets involved. Everyone is listening attentively because without that you will not be able to improvise on what needs to be done or said next. I LOVE IT and will continue using it OVER and OVER again, I have introduced it to other colleagues of mine and they now use it as well.
I was first introduced to Team First Development warm-up games when I contracted with AT&T as a ScrumMaster. Most of my team members did not know each other and were new to agile. In the beginning, it was difficult to get the team members to speak up. Using the warm-up games made a significant impact on team collaboration that I don’t think would otherwise have been achieved as quickly. The people side of agile is the most important part and is often the most neglected. I will be an evangelist for Team First Development warm-up games wherever I am leading scrum teams.
